BahnCards can be purchased up to 6 months in advance. Tickets can be booked up to 12 months in advance. It is not necessary to already have a valid BahnCard at the time of booking for a journey planned in the future. A valid BahnCard must only be presented on the day of travel.
A BahnCard can only be purchased by a person with a customer account on bahn.de. A valid, personal e-mail address is required by the person creating a customer account. To be able to use and present the digital BahnCard, customers also need the customer account in order to log into the DB Navigator app. In DB Navigator, the digital BahnCard is stored in the customer account; the account holder can access it when logged in.
