Located in the Saxon Lowlands, Leipzig was strategically built at the junction of two major rivers. This position made it an important stop on multiple trade routes and helped modern Leipzig become a booming centre for trade fairs. Each year countless trade fairs are held in Leipzig, including the International Leipzig Book Fair. Classical music fans will delight in visiting the famous St. Thomas Church (Thomaskirche), home to the famed 800-year-old Thomanerchor boys' choir. Just as importantly, Johann Sebastian Bach served as this church's choirmaster from 1723 to 1750. His remains are buried in the church, and the nearby archive holds original artefacts.
