Frequently asked questions about tickets for international rail companies
Why does DB provide offers from other rail companies?
We want to gradually make the whole of Europe accessible by rail. This is made possible by the new European interface standard OSDM (Open Sales and Distribution Model), which enables mutual access between European rail companies and sales platforms to a large number of offers. This means that offers are available in many countries via DB.
How can I buy tickets for other rail companies?
Simply search for your point of departure and destination using the regular connection search function on bahn.de or in the DB Navigator app.
Which offers can I book?
Many offers are available from ÖBB (Austria), SBB (Switzerland), SNCF (France), Eurostar (including France and London), Trenitalia (Italy) and SJ (Sweden).
Can I book tickets for purely international connections?
Yes, you can also book tickets for purely international connections, such as Paris to Toulouse or Florence to Naples, via bahn.de and in the DB Navigator app.
Is it possible to book night trains?
You can book tickets for night trains from ÖBB and SJ. Choose from the various couchette and sleeper cars via the regular booking process.
Does DB offer the same prices as the other rail company's web page?
The uniform OSDM standard allows real-time tariff and data exchange. This means that the prices for tickets purchased from DB are usually identical to those offered by international rail companies. There may be slight deviations in certain cases, such as during promotional periods or due to exchange rate fluctuations.
I cannot find a price for my desired destination. Am I doing something wrong?
Unfortunately, we cannot provide price information for all destinations and all journey times. This depends on the availability of tickets and the means of transport chosen. We are constantly working to expand the offer.
Who should I contact if I want to assert my passenger rights for a ticket issued by a rail company other than DB?
To ensure speedy processing, we recommend submitting passenger rights claims for tickets issued by other rail companies (e.g. ÖBB, SBB, SNCF) directly to them. The relevant rail company is clearly indicated during the booking process and is also shown in the top-left corner of the ticket with a logo and a four-digit code. Alternatively, you can also submit passenger rights claims for tickets with other rail companies to DB. We will then forward your claim to the responsible rail company.
I have booked several tickets in one transaction. What passenger rights can I assert?
In principle, each ticket represents a separate contract of carriage in each direction and for each transport company. We inform you of this during the booking process if you conclude several contracts of carriage. In this case, liability for passenger rights claims only applies to the respective contract of carriage.
I have booked several tickets in one transaction and will miss my connection due to a delay. How can I continue my journey?
A number of rail companies have concluded the "Agreement on Journey Continuation (AJC)". If you miss a connection, you will be rebooked on a subsequent train of the rail company whose train you missed, if possible at no extra cost. The rebooking will be made based on the capacity of the next possible train. The most important rules can be found here.
Please note that the rebooking always starts at the location where you miss the connection. If you book new tickets independently of this, you cannot be reimbursed for the additional costs incurred.
