Rothenburg ob der Tauber is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in all of Europe and is most certainly one of Germany's most-popular tourist destinations. The old Bavarian imperial city is situated along the famed Romantic Road (Romantische Strasse). Rothenburg thankfully managed to escape WWII unscathed; its massive stone walls and 42 towers date back to 1618. Be sure to take a walk along the ancient walls for fantastic views of the town and its surroundings. The 13th-century Town Hall (Rathaus) and the 14th-century Council Tavern with its clock are also sites to be seen.
