Visit Augsburg and Bavaria by train

Augsburg is the third-largest city in Bavaria, located only 78 kilometres from Munich. It enjoyed an illustrious past as the home of two important medieval merchant dynasties, the Fuggers and the Welsers. Today, it is that medieval past that has made it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. It is also located along the famous and beautiful "Romantische Strasse" (Romantic Highway).

If you find yourself in Augsburg, be sure to visit the stunning Augsburg Cathedral. This 11th-century structure is home to the oldest stained glass windows in Germany, dating back to 1100. Another must is a stroll down the busy and bustling Maximilianstrasse. It is, in fact, the original Roman road that connected Germany to Italy, but today it is the place to be for shopping and dining.
