Enjoy the many sights of this historical city

Amsterdam is a city brimming with history. During the 17th century the country developed into a maritime power, and Amsterdam transformed from a small port into an important commercial centre. The quaint canals lined with terraced houses in all shapes and sizes date back to this Dutch Golden Age. A boat tour is the ideal way to take in the sights and to get better acquainted with the city. However, the Dutch capital has much more to offer. Don't miss the Rijksmuseum, housing Rembrandt's famous Night Watch, or visit the nearby Van Gogh Museum. End a day with a stroll through the Vondelpark, followed by a night out in one of the city's many restaurants and theatres.

Van Gogh, Madame Tussauds and all things orange

A treat for any art lover, the Van Gogh Museum contains the largest collection of the Dutch painter's work anywhere in the world. Immerse yourself in some of Vincent van Gogh's most famous paintings, including Sunflowers, Almond Blossom and The Potato Eaters. Children will enjoy Madame Tussauds for an up-close encounter with film stars, singers and even royalty. For a special visit, travel to Amsterdam on 27 April for King's Day, when the entire city turns orange to celebrate the King's birthday! Deutsche Bahn has regular connections to Amsterdam, and from here you can also visit the nearby village of Volendam or enjoy the tulips at Keukenhof. "I AMsterdam", what about you?
