Services on the train and at the station

Deutsche Bahn’s ICE trains offer a dedicated on-board catering service, consisting of an on-board restaurant and a bistro car. Food, snacks and drinks are only available on ICE trains; IC and regional trains do not offer this service. 

The on-board restaurant features seated dining and a wider selection of hot meals, while the bistro mainly serves snacks, drinks and simple dishes, typically with standing areas. 

Both the restaurant and bistro use fresh ingredients and offer a seasonal menu, including vegetarian, vegan, and classic options. Additionally, ICE trains provide at-seat service in first class, allowing passengers to order directly from their seat.

Digital on-board catering

The digital on-board catering service lets first class passengers on ICE trains order food and drink to their seat digitally via the ICE Portal. You can also place your order with the service staff in first class or visit the on-board restaurant or bistro car.

Passengers in second class can use the digital menu on the ICE Portal to find out about the food and drink available on the train. We are happy to take orders personally in the on-board restaurant or bistro car.

The DB Lounge is a comfortable waiting area provided by Deutsche Bahn in major stations, designed especially for travellers with specific long-distance tickets. It is open to passengers with a first class ticket for an ICE or IC train, as well as those with premium international tickets such as the Eurail or Interrail Pass in first class. 

The lounge offers comfortable seating, workspaces, complimentary Wi-Fi and power outlets for your devices. Complimentary drinks such as coffee, tea and soft drinks, as well as small snacks, are also available here. The DB Lounge is ideal for relaxing, working, or waiting for your train, providing a peaceful and upscale atmosphere away from the platform.

The Travel Centre and DB Information make your rail journey especially smooth. 

In the Travel Centre (in German Reisezentrum), you can receive personal advice, buy tickets, make reservations and get information about all your rail transport options – whether for local, long-distance or international travel. Staff here can even respond to complex requests like ticket price queries or special needs.

DB Information stands (in German also DB Information) can usually be found at central locations in the station. They can provide quick answers about departures, platforms and connections. The team also provides assistance during emergencies or for accessibility concerns. Both services combine personal help with digital support.

Find your train

The departure board at the station displays all departing trains, including their train number and destination station. The destination station is where the train terminates, so the stop where you plan to get off may not necessarily be shown. Compare the departure time and train number with the details on your ticket to find the platform from which your train departs.

Find your coach

A train consists of several different coaches, so simply knowing your seat number is often not enough to find your seat. As the same seat number can appear in each coach, it is important to also know your coach number.

The coach sequence display at the platform shows the sequence of train coaches and their positions along the track, including the distinction between first and second-class coaches. It helps you quickly identify where your reserved seat is and which coach to head for. This ensures you board at the correct spot and find your seat quickly and easily.
