Frequently asked questions about the City-Ticket
The City-Ticket is a ticket that allows you to travel to or from the station by bus, S-Bahn, U-Bahn and tram in 130 cities within a certain area of validity.
You receive the City-Ticket free of charge if you have booked a saver fare or flexible fare long-distance ticket (ICE, IC/EC) for a journey of more than 100 kilometres.
The City-Ticket is also included when you buy an Event Ticket. Please note: the City-Ticket does not include free public transport for your children.
Passengers who purchase a saver fare or super saver fare can also use the City-Ticket. It is now issued as an add-on to the saver fare or super saver fare, depending on your connection.
When booking a saver fare or super saver fare, the City-Ticket will be available separately for a fee depending on the specific departure or destination stop. This is subject to the following conditions:
- The departure or destination stop is in one of the approximately 130 City-Ticket towns and cities
- Your booking includes a journey to or from the long-distance service within the City-Ticket area using local transport
If you indicate in your booking enquiry that you only need DB long-distance trains (e.g. from Cologne Main Station to Berlin Central) and do not require a transfer within the City-Ticket area using local transport, the ticket will be issued without a City-Ticket.
The City-Ticket is included free of charge for flexible fare bookings, even from the very first kilometre (previously only for journeys of over 100 km).
When travelling to and from the destination on public transport with the City-Ticket, children aged 6-14 pay the standard children's fare for a single journey in the respective transport association.
If you have booked a flexible fare, the City-Ticket is also available free of charge for accompanying children and children travelling alone.
No, the BahnCard discount is only granted on the price of the long-distance journey when booking a saver or super saver fare. The additional City-Ticket for the saver and super saver fare is not discounted, as it is not part of the fare. Instead, the price of the respective transport association is applied, so that this fee is ultimately paid to the association.
The City-Ticket is included free of charge in the flexible fare. DB bears the costs for this.
No, the flexible fare always includes the City-Ticket free of charge if the start and/or destination stop is in a City-Ticket area.
When booking a saver or super saver fare, the City-Ticket is issued for a fee at the time of booking depending on the specific departure or destination stop:

The "+City" on your ticket indicates that the City-Ticket option covers your start and destination stations.
BahnCard 100 holders receive a free digital Deutschlandticket for their plastic BahnCard 100, which enables them to use local public transport throughout Germany. Therefore, an additional City-Ticket is not necessary.
The City-Ticket is valid for all passengers who are registered on the ticket. In the saver and super saver fares, the City-Ticket is issued for an additional fee for each fellow passenger. The flexible fare includes the City-Ticket free of charge for registered fellow passengers.
