Frequently asked questions

The Interrail One Country Pass is available for the following countries:

Austria, Benelux, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.

An Interrail One Country Pass is only valid in the country indicated on the pass.

Example: A traveller resident in the Netherlands books an Interrail Spain Pass. The pass is only valid for travel in Spain and cannot be used for travel from the Netherlands to Spain.

Note: The One Country Pass cannot be purchased for the traveller's country of residence.

Prices for an Interrail One Country Pass vary from country to country. Some One Country Passes are available from as little as EUR 54.

  • Children under the age of 4 travel for free and do not need their own Interrail Pass.
  • Up to two children under the age of 12 can accompany an adult free of charge. An Interrail Youth Pass must be booked for each additional child.
  • Children under the age of 12 travelling alone need an Interrail Youth Pass.
  • Children aged 12 and over need an Interrail Youth Pass.

Note: The free Child Pass for children under 12 can be booked together with an adult pass. Add the number of Child Passes you require to your shopping basket when ordering your own adult Interrail Pass. A maximum of two children can travel free of charge with one adult. The accompanying adult does not have to be a relative, but must be at least 18 years old at the time of the trip.

You can purchase an Interrail Pass in several ways:

  • Mobile-Pass:
    You can book your Interrail Pass digitally by selecting the "mobile Pass" option at the checkout. You will then receive an e-mail containing the order confirmation and Pass number, which you can use to load your Pass to the Eurail/Interrail Rail Planner app
  • Online booking with Pass sent by post:
    You can order your Interrail Pass online and receive it by post. Please allow enough time for delivery.
  • Individual support:
    Would you like individual customer support and the opportunity to buy a Pass over the counter? You can also buy an Interrail Pass at our travel centres and from a host of travel agents.

To travel with the mobile Pass, you need your smartphone, the Rail Planner app and an internet connection (at least once every three days). Simply select the "mobile Pass" option at the checkout. You will receive an e-mail containing the order confirmation and Pass number so you can load your Pass to the app.

Activating your mobile Pass
Follow the instructions in the order confirmation e-mail to load the Pass to the app and activate it. You can either do both steps at once, or add the pass to the app first and activate it later – it's up to you.

Travelling with the mobile Pass
Find the routes and travel connections you need in the Rail Planner app. Tap a connection to save it to My Trip, where you can see all your travel plans at a glance. When you are ready to make the trip, tap it to add that journey to your Pass. The journey will then appear under My Pass as a ticket, so that you can show it during ticket inspection on the train.

You can buy an Interrail Pass as early as 11 months before your journey begins.

Interrail Global Pass: Yes, the Interrail Global Pass gives you two journeys for the country where you are living. One of these journeys is for departing from your country of residence and the other is for your return to your country of residence.

Interrail One Country Pass: No, you cannot use the One Country Pass to travel in the country where you are living.

You will need a reservation to travel on many of Europe’s high-speed trains and on all night trains. You cannot travel on these trains without a reservation.

Please also note that a reservation including surcharge is required for high-speed trains between Germany and France and for Eurocity trains between Munich and destinations in Italy.

You can make your reservation for almost all European trains up to 6 months before departure online here, at DB points of sale and at www.interrail.eu, for some trains up to 3 months before departure.

The Interrail Pass does not include reservation fees.

When travelling with the Interrail Pass, you must show the identification document specified in the Interrail Pass on the train.

When purchasing, you must specify the following:

  • First name and surname
  • Date of birth
  • Country of residence
  • The number of your valid ID document
  • The date of your departure (= start of the Pass’s validity period)

Exchange before the first day of validity:
Free of charge

Cancellation up to and including the fist day of validity:
Subject to a fee of 15%

Exchange or cancellation after the first day of validity:
Not possible

A refund for a digital pass (mPass) can only be processed if the pass has not yet been activated or if the pass has been deactivated again before the first day of validity.
