Do children travel free of charge?

  • The ticket can be used by up to 5 people travelling together.
  • Children aged 6-14: up to 3 of your own or other children can be taken along free of charge, regardless of whether the ticket is purchased for one or more people.
  • Children under 6 years of age always travel free of charge. They do not need a ticket and are not counted when determining the number of people.

    Please note that different rules may apply to other tickets:
     
  • Regional day ticket for Baden-Württemberg:

    Own children and grandchildren:

    • Children up to 5 years always travel free of charge.
    • If the ticket is used by up to 2 persons, one person can take any number of own children or grandchildren under 15 years with them free of charge.
    • If there are more than 2 paying persons, 6-14-year-olds pay the regular fare.

    Children travelling with adults:

    • Children up to 5 years always travel free.
    • Children aged 6-14 who are not your own children or grandchildren pay the regular fare.
       
  • Regional day ticket for Hessen:

    • You can take up to 3 children under the age of 6 with you free of charge.
    • Older children count as regular passengers.
      
  • Regional day ticket for Lower Saxony:

    • Children up to 5 years always travel free.
    • Children aged 6-14 travel free if a ticket for up to 5 persons is booked.
    • If more than 5 paying persons are travelling, the regular fare applies for children aged 6-14.
      
  • Regional day ticket for North Rhine-Westphalia:

    Own children and grandchildren:

    • Children up to 5 years always travel free.
    • Children aged 6-14 travel free if a ticket for 1 or 2 persons is booked
    • If more than 2 paying persons are travelling, the regular fare applies for children aged 6-14.
       
    Children travelling with adults:

    • Children up to 5 years always travel free.
    • Children aged 6-14 who are not your own children or grandchildren pay the regular fare.
