Do I need an ID when booking or during ticket inspection on the train?

When booking digital tickets, you do not need to provide an identification card. The tickets are issued to the travelers specified during the booking process.

On-board ticket inspection requires you to present one of the following identification documents:

• European or German ID card
• ID card from Norway or Switzerland
• German or international passport
• Children's passport
• Documents issued by a German authority for refugees and asylum seekers, such as BÜMA, BÜWA, or temporary residence permit
• BahnCard (possibly together with a photo ID)

Driver’s licences, student ID cards, military ID cards, and disability ID cards are not valid.
